2024_09_02 Update

My goal is to share usable information with those who might find it useful.

But, in a similar way to book authors, even doing it on the web still requires a certain foundation before you go public. Sure, book authors need the whole book to be completed. And bound. That’s not a requirement on the web, of course.

But the website needs to be sufficiently understandable so that others have some idea of what’s going on.

For entrepreneurs, there has always been the idea of getting ideas in front of potential users or customers fast. That meant that you don’t wait for perfect. You want to focus on putting enough out there that people will get a sense of your product and can give feedback. That’s often described as a minimum viable product (MVP). It’s supposed to be enough that it can stand on its own. But, it’s far from polished.

Then came another idea. The problem with MVP is this – if it’s so rough, it can appear to be unworthy. You don’t want someone to simply say — hmm — okay, it has potential. You want them to not only understand the basic idea but also to jump on board as an early fan. That translates into a minimum lovable product (MLP).

For me, sure – lovable would be great. But, I need to focus on having a website that is a minimum comprehensible product (MCP). I just made that up.

The website has to help people understand what I’m doing. And they need to be able to navigate to the good stuff (which will be pretty minimal at first). And I want them to sign up to follow along.

I don’t want to wait until I’ve already written the entire book. I want to write and release the book (so to speak) chapter by chapter. But I need to create that space, first, where all of these chapters are accessible.

This foundation is mostly complete. I hope it will be complete by the end of this week. Then, I can focus on researching, writing, and releasing component sections of my two websites (this one, and The Responsibility Matrix.
