Preface.2
Vision, Mission, and Strategy
My story talked about how I unintentionally created a personal brand that shaped my career.
It was clear that I viewed things differently than other internal auditors. At first, this was simply a curious fact.
But over the years, my natural introspection took over. And I considered the question – How was my approach different?
I came to realize that I was never focused on being a great internal auditor. I was focused on adding value and contributing to the overall success of the organization.
And I came to better understand why I see things a bit differently.
Vision
I see internal auditors as a unique and essential part of any organization’s strategic success.
The internal audit profession has a strong focus on professional and technical standards. These standards form a unique and useful foundation for the individual auditor.
To their benefit, standards often recognize the value of the auditor becoming a strategic collaborator within their organization.
Unfortunately, they don’t provide a practical roadmap to get there.
Mission
My mission is to help internal auditors, at all levels, recognize that adding value to others is the roadmap for personal and professional success.
Success, for anyone, starts by finding ways to help others achieve their goals.
This is the only way to develop influence and become trusted advisors.
This is a process that you can control.
Strategy
I will provide a tangible and practical method for internal auditors to transform their unique skills and interests into a valuable professional brand.
A consistent, visible personal brand – beyond simply being ‘the auditor’ – lets others recognize and understand your unique skills and abilities.
And when they know what you can do, and how you can help them achieve their goals, they will invite you to the table.
